Buddha Purnima 2025: Date, significance and mantras you should know

Mumbai: Buddha Purnima holds immense significance in both Hinduism and Buddhism. Also known as Vaishakh Purnima, this sacred day commemorates the birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha. In Hindu tradition, Lord Buddha is revered as the ninth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is believed that three monumental events in Lord Buddha’s life occurred on this very day — his birth, enlightenment, and Mahaparinirvana (final liberation). This rare confluence of events makes the day especially holy and spiritually powerful.

On Buddha Purnima, devotees worship both Lord Gautam Buddha and Lord Vishnu. Buddhist followers observe a day-long fast and engage in prayers and rituals. It is said that observing the day with sincere devotion and traditional rituals invokes the blessings of Lord Vishnu, bringing peace, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment.
