New Delhi: The Member of Parliaments (MP) from Kerala, except the lone NDA MP, Suresh Gopi has termed that the budget is devoid of a national character and has clearly avoided all the non-NDA states thereby making it a ‘political’ budget. MPs who spoke to the Malayalam media houses in New Delhi said that the union government’s move to allocate a huge sum of financial allocation towards three states – Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Odisha and neglecting many other states in the country that are reeling under financial crisis shows that the government at the centre was trying to appease its allies rather than looking towards the growth of the entire nation.
The lone MP representing the CPI(M) from Kerala, K Radhakrishnan said that the word Kerala is not even mentioned once in the budget. MPs from Kerala feel that the budget did not consider Kerala at a time when the state is going through a financial crisis.
NK Premachandran, the Kollam MP condemned the union budget allocation measures where he said that the 2024 union budget of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government ‘an exercise in political survival” that is devoid of national character and a total disappointment for the non-NDA ruled states.
“The Naidu-Nitish Dependent Alliance has announced largesse for Bihar and Andhra Pradesh to remain in power. The alliance has brutally ignored and discriminated non-BJP ruled states such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala which shows that the government has clearly played politics at the cost of the overall development of the nation”, said NK Premachandran.
Francis George, the MP from Kottayam said that the union budget has clearly ignored the rubber farmers of Kerala. “Not even a single mention was there about the rubber prices which is one of the most important issues faced by more than 10 lakh farmers in the state”, he said.
Shashi Tharoor, the MP from Thiruvananthapuram termed the budget as ‘underwhelming’ budget. I didn’t find anything that concerns the common man in our country. There is no mention of MNREGA, and insufficient mention of steps taken to improve the income of a common person. We have seen far too little from the government on addressing income disparity.
Kerala, a state that has 20 MPs in the Loksabha have 18 from the Congress, 1 from the CPI(M) and 1 from the BJP.
