New Delhi: Real Madrid unveiled full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold as their newest signing on Thursday and announced that he will wear the No. 12 shirt at the upcoming Club World Cup.
He was presented with the traditional white Real Madrid jersey by club president Florentino Perez at a presentation ceremony.
The 26-year-old left Liverpool after two decades at the current English champions with Real shelling out around £10million to make the switch before the end of his contract on June 30.
After holding up the No. 12 jersey, which was previously worn by Brazilian Marcelo, Alexander-Arnold sais his move to sign for the Spanish giants is “a dream come true”.
“Signing for a club like Real Madrid doesn’t happen every day. It’s a dream come true. I feel incredibly happy and proud to be here. I can’t wait to show all the Madridistas my football and give everything for this badge,” he said.
“I’m aware that playing for Real Madrid comes with great responsibility, and I’m ready to give everything for the team and for the Madridistas.
“I can’t wait to show my game, win many titles, become a champion, grow, and enjoy every moment alongside the best players in the world. Thank you, and Hala Madrid!”
Perez said the club will ensure to make him comfortable alongside fellow England international Jude Bellingham.
“At Real Madrid, you will find teammates who form a great family, some of them good friends of yours, like our dear Jude Bellingham,” Perez said.
“And I want you to know that the defining trait of Real Madrid is that, in addition to being great players, they are all true Madridistas. You will quickly understand what Real Madrid is. Every title is a boost to try again.”
Alexander-Arnold is the second English Premier player after centre-back Dean Huijsen to join Madrid and both could make their debut at the Club World Cup.
