Caoimhin Kelleher seeking Liverpool exit after the arrival of Giorgi Mamardashvili

New Delhi: Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has mentioned his wish to leave Liverpool to become the primary shot-stopper in club football. In the Republic of Ireland’s 2-0 defeat against England, Kelleher featured in the starting XI. However, at Anfield, he is the second-choice goalkeeper behind Alison Becker.

With Giorgi Mamardashvili joining the side next summer, Kelleher’s future remains bleak with the club. Speaking on the situation, the 25-year-old has said that he has mentioned his wish to play “week in, week out”. Since Liverpool has gone for a goalkeeper outside of the club, Kelleher feels their goals aren’t aligned in the same direction.

“Liverpool have rejected a few bids [for me] as well. It’s not always in my hands to fully make the decision.

My ambition is clear – I’m good enough, and I want to go and play week in, week out.” pic.twitter.com/n2ArznFNU2

Last season, when Alisson sustained a hamstring injury, Kelleher substituted for the Brazilian and made 26 appearances. With Liverpool, he has won the Carabao Cup twice. His performance led to a link with Nottingham Forest, but the bids were ultimately rejected.

Kelleher was asked about the summer approaches, and he mentioned that all of the decisions regarding his moves were not his. Aside from that, there were few rejections from Liverpool due to Kelleher’s decision to feature as the number one choice for duties between the posts.

He is enjoying his time with his national team as Southampton’s Gavin Bazunu suffered an injury, which has made Kelleher the primary choice for the Irish team. Though the team lost 2-0 to England at Aviva Stadium in Heimir Hallgrimsson’s maiden match with the team, his own performance was decent, but he expressed his dissatisfaction with the overall performance. He concluded that he was happy with the saves he made but still did not end on the winning side. He would have been happy if the side had ultimately won the game against old rivals.

After approaches throughout the summer window, Kelleher is evaluating his next move from Liverpool.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
