Carabao Cup 2024/25: Liverpool ease past Spurs to set up Newcastle final at Wembley

New Delhi: Liverpool’s charge towards silverware continued with a dominant 4-0 win over Tottenham at Anfield, securing their place in the Carabao Cup final. Arne Slot’s side never looked troubled as they overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit in style. With the Premier League title race in their hands and progress in the Champions League and FA Cup, Liverpool look like a team hungry for trophies.

Spurs, dealing with an injury crisis, never really threatened. Ange Postecoglou’s side were pinned back from the start, struggling to match Liverpool’s intensity. Any hope Tottenham had was wiped away early in the second half when Mohamed Salah converted from the penalty spot.

Liverpool dominate from start to finish

Liverpool’s pressure was relentless from the beginning. Cody Gakpo opened the scoring after Spurs lost possession deep in their own half, and from there, it was one-way traffic. Spurs barely made it out of their own half, with only a late Son Heung-min effort coming close to a goal.

Dominik Szoboszlai doubled the lead with a sharp finish before Virgil van Dijk added a fourth to complete a statement performance. Darwin Núñez, Salah, and Ryan Gravenberch all came close to scoring as Liverpool overwhelmed Spurs. Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky made some key saves but was at fault for the penalty, bringing down Núñez as he tried to clear the ball.

For Tottenham, this was another night to forget. A depleted squad and a lack of attacking threat meant they never looked capable of turning the tie around. The decision to leave out Pedro Porro and start Archie Gray at right-back raised eyebrows, but the problems ran deeper.

Liverpool will now face Newcastle in the final at Wembley, with Slot’s side going in as clear favourites. With momentum on their side, few will bet against them adding another trophy to their collection.

Liverpool crushed Tottenham 4-0 at Anfield to book a Carabao Cup final clash with Newcastle. Arne Slot’s side dominated, with goals from Gakpo, Szoboszlai, Van Dijk, and a Salah penalty sealing victory.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
