New Delhi: Indian skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli bagged big accolades at the Ceat Cricket Rating Awards 2023-24 in Mumbai on Wednesday. Meanwhile, former head coach Rahul Dravid, under who’s guidance India won the T20 World Cup 2024 was also awarded big at the award ceremony.
While Rohit was named the ‘Men’s International Cricketer of the Year’, run-machine Kohli earned the ‘Men’s ODI Batter of the Year’ award. Erstwhile coach Dravid, who quit as the head coach of Indian unit, was honoured with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the Ceat Cricket Rating Awards. Another India player who proved out to be one of the top performers in the ODI World Cup 2023, Mohammed Shami, was named the ‘ODI Bowler of the Year’.
Ashwin, Jaiswal get recognised for contribution
Seasoned veteran Ravichandran Ashwin was named the ‘Men’s Test Bowler of the Year’ while young sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal, who played a pivotal role with the bat in England Test series earlier this year, was named the ‘Men’s Test Batter of the Year. Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, who was awarded for excellence in sports administration, said that the Indian teams will look to clinch more trophies in the future.
Shreyas Iyer, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title earlier this year, was also presented with a memo for ‘outstanding leadership’ Tamil Nadu captain R Sai Kishore, who led his team to the Ranji Trophy final last season, was named the ‘Domestic cricketer of the Year’.
India women recognised
On the women’s front, Indian women’s team skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was presented with a memo for leading the country in most matches in T20I history, while her deputy and opening batter Smriti Mandhana was adjudged the ‘Women’s Indian Batter of the Year’. Deepti Sharma was named the ‘Indian Bowler of the Year’. Opening batter Shafali Verma was presented with a memento for scoring the fastest double century in women’s Test cricket.
