New Delhi: The three-match T20I series between England and Australia came to a disappointing end after the decider third T20I was abandoned due to incessant rain at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday. The teams therefore shared the series 1-1. The stage was all set for an electrifying final battle of the series but it downpoured heavily throughout the game time, even denying a delayed start.
The toss kept on getting delayed at first as the umpires couldn’t even conduct a proper inspection, courtesy of the rain gods. It must have been frustrating specially for England, who came into this contest on a high after squaring the series in Cardiff. The forecast didn’t look promising for the complete day and with no signs of the conditions improving, the match eventually had to be called off.

Australia won the series opener by 28 runs at the Rose Bowl in Southampton before England levelled the series with a brilliant three-wicket win at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff.
Liam Livingstone was adjudged the player of the series for his all-round performance as he scored 124 runs at a strike rate of 167 and picked five wickets as well. He gained a spot in the ODI squad for the five-match series against the Aussies solely on his performance in the T20Is. Jos Buttler, who is dealing with a calf injury, will be on the sidelines and 25-year-old Harry Brook will be leading the English team for the first time in the series.
