New Delhi: India jumped to 13th spot after the action of Day 7 of the ongoing Paris Paralympics 2024 on Tuesday. The Indian contingent added two gold and two silver to move six places up in the medal tally a day after recording its best medal overhaul with 20 medals, bettering the feat (19) achieved at Tokyo three years ago.
On Wednesday, Harvinder Singh and Dharambir grabbed gold medals in men’s recurve open archery and men’s club throw, respectively. Pranav Soorma claimed silver medal in the men’s club throw event as India finished one-two on the podium for the first time in this edition. Sachin Khilari took silver in the men’s shot put F46 category to open the medal count for the day.
Harvinder will be again in action on Thursday (September 5) in the mixed team recurve open event along with Pooja Jatyan. The 33-year-old Harvinder from Haryana would like to bow out with two medals, which would be his third overall in the Paralympics.
Mona Agarwal, who claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle SH1 event, will pair up with Sidhartha Babu in the R6 – mixed 50m rifle prone SH1 event. Para judokas Kapil Parmar and Kokila will start their events with the qualification rounds.
Simran Sharma, who topped the heats of women’s 100m T12 category, will compete in the semifinal. The final event of Simran will also take place later in the night if she manages to qualify. Arvind will be in action in the men’s shot put F35 event later in the night. Ashok Kumar Malik will compete in the final of men’s powerlifting event (up to 65kg).
