‘Champion-champion’: Afghanistan players celebrate Australia win with DJ Bravo’s iconic song

New Delhi: Afghanistan’s joy knew no bounds after they notched up their maiden win over mighty Australia in T20 World Cup.

In a Super Eights clash in Kingstown in Sunday, they posted a competitive 148/6 and then folded the Aussies for 127 in 19.2 overs to win by 21 runs.

It was Afghanistan’s first win against Australia in any format after six consecutive defeats, including four in ODIs. They had come mighty close to winning in the ODI World Cup last year but were undone by an unbelievably special knock from Glenn Maxwell.

But on Sunday they were propelled by half centuries from openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (60) and Ibrahim Zadran (51) as they posted a competitive 148 for 6.

All-rounder Gulabdin Naib then came up with his career-best figures of 4/20 to bundle out Australia for 127 in 19.2 overs. It snapped Australia’s eight match winning streak in T20Is, including five in the ongoing tournament.

Naib was chosen as the player of the match after running through the Aussie top order.

After their win, the Afghan players went wild while celebrating the memorable triumph. In a video that has gone viral on social media, the playesr can be seen grooving to Dwayne Bravo’s iconic ‘Champion’ song in their team bus.

Bravo is also the team’s bowling coach and has been credited fo making Afghanistan a potent bowling side with a good mix of pacers and spinners.

“Congratulations on another great team effort! Proud moment for each and everyone of you. Passion, pride and heart. Inshallah we go again soon,” Bravo wrote on social media.
