New Delhi: Pakistan Cricket Board has taken steps to stop statements related to suspense over India’s participation in Champions Trophy.
Pakistan will host the International Cricet Council tournament in February-March next year with an air of uncertainty hanging over India.
Citing security issues, India have refused to travel to Pakistan for over a decade, denying to travel last year for the Asia Cup.
The matches of Asia Cup had to be organised in a hybrid model with reports of ICC keeping that option in mind for the Champions Trophy.
As uncertainty looms, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has sought to prevent his colleagues from making any statements over the sensitive matter.
PTI reports that the PCB chief has adopted a policy within the board to prevent any comments and let the ICC deal with the matter.
“That is why in recent days there is no comments or statement coming from either Naqvi or any other board official on what will happen if India doesn’t send its team to Pakistan,” one PCB insider said to PTI.
Naqvi has directed all PCB officials to make necessary arrangements for the Champions Trophy should India make the trip. All group stage matches of India will be held in Lahore as per the schedule.
“The PCB has sent the draft schedule and submitted all other documents including security plans for each team to the ICC now it is for the owners of the CT to convince India to send its team,” the insider said.
Naqvi has issued the gag prder to prevent unwanted comments leading to controversies in mainstream or social media platforms over the issue.
“It is clear Naqvi doesn’t want to show the PCB’s cards on what will be the reaction of the board if India again refuses to send its team but behind closed doors after meetings with the government officials a strategy has been finalised,” another source in Islamabad told PTI.
BCCI await the Indian government’s approval to send the team to Pakistan.
