New Delhi: A narrow victory over Djurgarden saw Chelsea book their place in the Conference League final against Real Betis. The Blues secured their spot in the final with a 1-0 win over Djurgarden in the second leg of Thursday’s semifinal, even with a heavily rotated lineup, advancing after an aggregate score of 5-1. Meanwhile, Betis secured their spot in their first European final after thrillingly beating Fiorentina 4-3 on aggregate in extra time.
Midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the decisive goal in the 38th minute at Stamford Bridge with a low left-footed shot. After the win, Dewsbury-Hall told TNT Sports, “Amazing to be in the final.” He added, “We set our sights at the start of the season to get as far as we can in this tournament and it has been a long couple of months but one more game to go and hopefully we can lift that trophy.”
The Premier League club remains on course to become the first club to win all major European competitions. The Blues have already claimed the Champions League (2012, 2021), the Europa League (2013, 2019), the Cup Winners’ Cup (1971, 1998) and the Super Cup (1998, 2021).

Maresca’s calculated move
Enzo Maresca’s squad for the semifinal second leg only included Marc Cucurella from the lineup that defeated recently crowned champions Liverpool 3-1 on Sunday. Sixteen-year-old Reggie Walesh earned his first start and drew numerous fouls, becoming the third youngest player to make an appearance for the Blues.
What next?
If the Premier League club manages to win the Conference League, they will earn entry to the next season’s Europa League. However, their priority still remains to secure Champions League qualification through their Premier League standing. As they are fifth on the table, they will benefit from their squad rotation when they lock horns with Newcastle United on Sunday. The final is set to take place in Wroclaw, Poland, on May 28th.
