New Delhi: MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) hammered Gujarat Titans (GT) by 83 runs in their final game of the season to end their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign on a high. CSK rode on fifties from Dewald Brevis and opener Devon Conway to post a big total of 230 runs on the board, before their bowlers bundled out GT for a paltry 147 runs to hand them their biggest defeat in terms of runs in the IPL.
Asked to chase a huge target of 231 runs, the Gujarat Titans succumbed under pressure after a top-order collapse. Titans lost opener Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford cheaply inside the Powerplay to get off to a horror start and could never recover as CSK bowlers dominated the proceedings to wrap up a convincing victory for the five-time champions.
Anshul Kamboj bowled a fabulous spell with the new ball as he got rid of Gill on 13 off 9 balls before dismissing Sherfane Rutherford on a duck in the same over. Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed got the important wicket of Jos Buttler, removing him cheaply on 5 off 7 balls to reduce GT to 30/3 in the Powerplay.
In-form opener Sai Sudharsan waged a lone battle for Gujarat Titans with a 28-ball 41 and combined with Shahrukh Khan (19) to share a 55-run stand for the fourth wicket and get GT’s innings back on track. However, the duo couldn’t do enough as GT kept losing wickets at regular intervals to get bundled out for 147 runs in 18.3 overs to suffer their biggest defeat in the tournament.
Kamboj was the pick of the bowlers for CSK as he finished with excellent figures of 13/2 off his 2.3 overs, along with spinner Noor Ahmad, who also managed to bag a three-wicket haul, dismissing the likes of Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan and Arshad Khan to run through GT’s lower-middle order. Noor is currently the leader in the Purple Cap race with 24 wickets in 14 matches this season.
