New Delhi: American ace Coco Gauff maintained her flawless run in the Australian Open 2025 on Wednesday with a straight sets victory against British player Jodie Burrage. Gauff, in her second round match, did not offer the slightest of scope to her opponent, dominating the entire clash right from the beginning.
Gauff registered a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Burrage setting up a third round clash against Canadian tennis player Leylah Fernandez. Burrage, who was pushed against the wall in the first set of the contest, bounced back in the second showcasing some courage and some astute game play but it remained of no use as the American rallied past the Brit in the last moments of play.
Gauff asserts dominance right from first set
Reigning U.S Open champion Gauff is yet to lose a match in the Australian Open, displaying her brilliance and dominance in the first Grand Slam of the season. Gauff asserted her dominance right from the beginning taking a swift 3-0 lead in the opening set. Burrage rallied to recover a break but Gauff quickly pounced upon her winning the next eight consecutive points to take the set 6-3 in her kitty.

Meanwhile, in the other contest earlier, Naomi Osaka also secured a berth in the third round of first Grand Slam after earning a hard-fought 1-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over 20th seed player Karolina Muchova. The match last for almost two hours at the the Melbourne Park. Elsewhere, Mirra Andreeva survived a scare against Moyuka Uchijima, who served for the match at 5-4 in the third before winning 6-4, 3-6, 7-6.
