New Delhi: The Australian team started the Border-Gavaskar Trophy on a tremendous note by picking regular wickets after India decided to bat first in the first Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth. Josh Hazlewood led the charge for the hosts as India were bowled out for 150 49.4 overs.
Debutant all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy was the best performer for the Jasprit Bumrah-led India, scoring 41 runs while batting at No.8. Nitish was involved in a 48-run stand with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant as the duo aimed to resurrect the Indian innings.
Pant made 37 runs from 78 balls with his compact defense was spot on. He played an unorthodox shot while shuffling across the crease to scoop Pat Cummins for a six. It was the highlight of the Indian innings as the wicketkeeper was destabilise and fell on the ground after playing the shot marvellously.
The most exciting battle to watch for the clash was the one between Pant and Australian spinner Nathan Lyon. Lyon was brought into the attack moments after KL Rahul’s dismissal. The Indian wicketkeeper smashed Lyon for a boundary.
In between the overs, when Australian fielders were shuffling inside the circle, Lyon was heard asking Pant which team he would be heading to in the IPL auction.
‘Where we going in the auction,’ Lyon asked. Pant responded with a chuckle on his face, saying ‘No idea’.
