Alvarez scored the first goal for Argentina in the 22nd minute, and Messi doubled the lead by redirecting Enzo Fernandez’s shot from the edge of the area past Canada goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau in the 51st minute.

Messi’s goal also moved him to 109 international goals, moving him ahead of Iran’s Ali Daei 108 goals. He’s behind Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo (130) on the all-time highest-goal-scoring leaderboard.
Argentina qualified for Copa America final
Argentina beat Canada by 2-0 in the semi-final of Copa America 2024 and qualified for their third consecutive major final. Lionel Messi is now just one win away from clinching his third international trophy.

The North American side continued to push but Messi’s goal in the 51st minute gave Argentina some relief in the crucial time of the match.
Argentina will face either Uruguay or Colombia in the final of the Copa America at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida on July 15. It will be Argentina record-breaking 30th appearance in the final.
