CPI(M) to challenge the ED legally after land associated with party being seized in Thrissur

Thrissur : CPI(M) which has paid heavily in the Loksabha polls over the allegations made against its leaders in Thrissur in connection with the Karuvannur cooperative bank scam has decided to take on the Enforcement Directorate legally and politically. The CPM is of the view that the agency is directly controlled by the BJP dispensation at the centre.

The move comes after the central agency seized 4.66 cents of land, two bank accounts and some other accounts in the past one week. The party firmly believes that the BJP-RSS machinery is trying to destroy the party by ensuring that the cooperative banks that are governed by the CPI(M) panellists are weakened.

The Thrissur unit of the CPM in its press release said that the party purchased the land for its Porathissery local committee office. The CPM has also alleged that the BJP-led Centre uses the ED against them for political reasons. The CPM said it would challenge the ED action politically and legally. The party has called the ED move a retaliatory action for its stance against the BJP in the electoral bond issue.

The press release also accused the central agency of ignoring the CPM’s requests for investigations into the BJP’s alleged involvement in the Kodakara hawala case and the Kodungallur counterfeit currency case.

Meanwhile, Shajan, a district committee member of the CPI(M) while speaking to TV9 said that the so-called assets seized by the ED is not amassed through any fraudulent means and the money is collected from the public.

The ED say that the accounts that has been freezed belong to the party which is untrue. The party office land which they have seized belongs to an accused in the Karuvannur scam. ED says they have freezed accounts in as many as 6 to 7 banks. But the fact is there is no balances in these banks. These are just to create a sensation in the media as the media will flash the news and create a feeling that the party is swindling money”, said Shajan to TV9.

He added that the CPI(M) has decided to approach the court as the party feels that the agency is acting at the behest of BJP and the RSS to weaken the CPI(M) in Kerala.
