New Delhi: Team India departed for Mumbai on a chartered flight after meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Men in Blue will participate in an open bus parade from Nirman Point to Wankhede Stadium. Team India landed in Delhi on Thursday morning where thousands of fans gathered to welcome the Men in Blue. Rohit Sharma and Co. defeated South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup in Barbados on June 29. But after the final, the team was stuck in the Caribbean due to Hurricane Beryl.
The BCCI arranged a special Air India chartered fight for the Men in Blue and their families and they landed in Delhi on Thursday morning. After the bus parade, BCCI will felicitate World Cup-winning players at the Wankhede Stadium.
Team India remained undefeated in the tournament and lifted their second T20 World Cup title. Virat Kohli scored 76 runs off 59 balls in the final and won the Player of the Match award while Jasprit Bumrah won the Player of the Tournament award for his outstanding bowling performance.
After the match, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja announced their retirement from the T20I cricket. Rohit Sharma was the highest run-scorer of the team in the T20 World Cup, he scored 257 runs in 8 matches at an average of 36. Arshdeep Singh was India’s leading wicket-taker in the tournament, he picked up 17 wickets in 8 matches.
