CSK star reveals MS Dhoni practising till late night ahead of Mumbai Indians clash in IPL 2025

New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Sam Curran has revealed the legendary MS Dhoni has been practising till late in the night ahead of the team’s opener against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 which kicked off on Saturday, March 22 with a glittery opening ceremony at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Chennai Super Kings will begin their campaign with a blockbuster clash against Mumbai Indians at their home ground – the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, March 23. Ahead of their opener, the CSK players are leaving no stone unturned in their preparations. All members of the CSK squad are part of their camp in Chennai which has been underway for quite some time now.

Dhoni was one of the first players to join CSK’s camp to prepare for the new season and has been spotted sweating out in the nets regularly. Recently, Curran, who returned to the franchise after two seasons, revealed Dhoni has been spending a lot of time batting in the nets to get into the groove ahead of the new season. The England all-rounder revealed he, Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja were batting up until 11:30 in the night.

“The other night I was batting with MS and Jadeja (Ravindra Jadeja) at 11:30 in the evening. I was thinking, where in the world would you do this? The lights were on, and we were just smacking balls everywhere,” Curran said while speaking to Nasser Hussain on Sky Cricket.

Curran reunited with Chennai Super Kings after being roped in by the franchise for Rs 2.4 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. Curran was part of the CSK squad for two seasons in IPL 2020 and 2021. He played a key role in helping CSK win their fourth IPL title under MS Dhoni in 2021. The English all-rounder spoke about Dhoni’s unmatched aura in the CSK squad and how youngsters get inspired by the presence of the former captain.

“You have all the local players around the group, and they just sit there and watch MS. It is just the aura of the guy. He is so easy to chat with, and I think his calmness, I guess the big moments he’s been involved in. But he never seems to panic,” Curran added.

MS Dhoni aims to win his sixth IPL title with CSK

Dhoni, who is in the final lap of his career, will be aiming to win his sixth IPL title with the Chennai Super Kings in what might be his last season with the franchise. The most successful captain in IPL history, Dhoni led CSK to five IPL titles and 10 finals before stepping down last season to hand over the reins to Ruturaj Gaikwad.

While many believed the CSK legend might hang up his boots at the end of IPL 2024, Dhoni decided to continue playing for the five-time champions and was retained as an uncapped player after BCCI brought back the ‘uncapped player’ rule. CSK had to pay only Rs 4 crore to retain the legendary wicket-keeper batter, who continues to be the guiding force in the CSK squad and will be hoping to play an impactful role in helping his team win a record sixth title this season.
