New Delhi: Cameron Bancroft and Daniel Sams were involved in a horrific collision during the Big Bash League match between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Friday, January 3. The incident happened in the 16th over of the first innings when Scorchers were batting.
Sydney Thunder’s Lockie Ferguson bowled a full delivery on the leg stump and Cooper Connolly played it over square leg. Sams and Bancroft were watching the ball and both went for the catch but ended up smashing into each other. Both players banged their face against each other and did not get up once after they collided.
Bancroft walked off the field with a bleedy nose and Sams was stretchered out of the field. The match was stopped for nearly 20 minutes due to the incident. Both players were concussed and sent to the hospital with concerns about facial fractures.

Perth Scorchers set 178-run target for Sydney Thunder
Sydney Thunder won the toss and opted to field first but the decision backfired as Finn Allen and Matthew Hurst forged a 61-run partnership for the opening wicket. Chris Green provided the first breakthrough for the Thunder and removed Hurst on 23 runs. Aaron Hardie and Finn Allen stitched a 41-run partnership for the second wicket but Tom Andrews dismissed Hardie on 10 runs.
Chris Green picked up his second wicket of the match and dismissed Allen. He scored 68 runs off 31 balls at a stunning strike rate of 219.35, his remarkable knock was laced with six boundaries and five maximums. Cooper Connolly and Nick Hobson forged an unbeaten 67-run partnership for the fifth wicket and helped the Scorchers to score 177 runs in 20 overs.
