New Delhi: In an up-and-down campaign, where negatives overshadowed the positives, Harsh Dubey was one of the bright spots for Sunrisers Hyderabad, head coach Daniel Vettori said after his team’s final league match in New Delhi. SRH signed off from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with a thumping win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the capital on Sunday night.

Vettori lavished praise on the talented left-arm spinner and backed the youngster to grow into a successful all-rounder in the future.

Despite starring in Vidarbha’s Ranji Trophy-winning campaign, Dubey went unsold in the IPL mega-auction. However, fate smiled on the young star, and he was eventually signed by Sunrisers as an injury replacement.

He featured in SRH’s playing XI in the last three games of the season and proved his worth. SRH won all three games and finished sixth on the points table with 13 points. He finished with an impressive five wickets in three matches at an average of 19.60.

“Look, I think we’re very pleased with what he’s done since he’s come into the team,” Vettori, one of the greatest left-arm spinners of all time, told the media.

“He’s obviously a very clever bowler, understands conditions well, understands how he needs to bowl and can mix it up, and I suppose we were desperate for that little bit of control and he’s been able to do that in all three games that he’s played so far.”

“The great thing for him is between now and the next IPL (is that) he’s going to play a lot of cricket, whether it’s for India A or his domestic team, there’s going to be a huge amount of opportunities for him “So we believe he can grow as a bowler and also as a batter, because the batting part of it was a big part of our decision-making too,” Vettori added.

Dubey shows glimpse of brilliance, signs off on a high

After being signed as an injury replacement for Ravichandran Smaran, Dubey bagged 1/44 against Lucknow Super Giants in his debut match.

Against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he took the prized wicket of Virat Kohli with a sensational delivery that deceived the Indian batting icon.

He saved his best for the last, claiming three wickets – Rinku Singh, Andre Russell and Ramandeep Singh – against KKR as SRH bowled out three-time winners for 168 to romp home to a 110-run victory.

The 22-year-old has been making headlines for a while now. He broke the Ranji Trophy record for most wickets in a single edition with 69 scalps in the 2024-25 season.

He was also prolific with the bat, scoring 476 runs in 10 matches with five half-centuries.

Courtesy of his consistent performances, Dubey was picked in the India A squad for the upcoming tour of England.

Daniel Vettori, the Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach, was all praise for young Vidarbha star, who played a key role in SRH’s last three matches in IPL 2025.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
