New Delhi: Deepti Sharma starred with bat and ball to guide London Spirit to their maiden Women’s Hundred title.
The India all-rounder took 1/23 and scored an unbeaten 16 runs from 16 balls as London Spirit defeated Welsh Fire by four wickets in the final at Lord’s on Sunday.
Deepti hit the winning runs, a six off Hayley Matthews, and then jumped into England’s Charlie Dean’s arms in celebration.
London Spirit chased down a target of 116 runs in 98 balls to win the tournament as Deepti, Eva Gray (2/26) and Sarah Glenn (2/17) and Tera Norris (1/18) were among the wickets.
They restricted Welsh Fire to 115 for 8 in the stipulated 100 balls, with Australia’s Jess Jonassen top-scoring with a 41-ball 54.
Georgia Redmayne anchored London Spirit’s run chase with a 32-ball 34 as Heather Knight (24) and Danielle Gibson (22) made useful contributions though Shabnim Ismail (3/24) halted their charge.
Deeptt then took onus hit the only six of the match to ensure victory for her side.

With the victory, Deepti and Dean also buried the hatchet after she was controversially dismissed by the Indian run out at the non-striker’s end during the third ODI against England in 2022.
Her mode of dismissal triggered a debate over the spirit of the game but two years down the line, it seems all is well between Deepti anf Dean.
