New Delhi: Every Provident Fund account holder is allotted a Universal Account Number (UAN) by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). The UAN number enables beneficiaries to view all their PF related information. In this article, we inform you about what to do if a wrong member ID is linked to UAN.
The EPFO has introduced a new facility, which enables members to delink the wrong member ID themselves. A Provident Fund account holder has to login to the EPFO member portal. Next step is to go to service history and select the wrong member ID tab and click on the delink option. The user will get an OTP to the registered mobile number which is linked to Aadhaar. After entering the OTP and completion of the verification process, the member ID will be delinked.
However, if the employer has made the contribution on the wrong ID, then the member will not be able to delink it. The account holder will have to contact the concerned employer or EPFO office. This new facility of EPFO gives account holders more control over their account, so that mistakes can be easily corrected.
How to delink someone else’s ID linked to UAN
Visit Unified Members Portal
Log and submit the OTP
Go to the View menu option and select Service History
Go to it and find the wrong ID linked to your UAN and click on Delink.
Click OK for confirmation
Go to the next page and select the reason for delinking.
Two Consent boxes will appear. Click them.
An OTP will be sent to the mobile linked to your Aadhaar.
Submit the OTP. Now the delinked ID will not be visible in your service history.
The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), backed by the central government, offers relatively high and stable returns. The interest earned on EPF deposits is tax-free (up to a specified limit).
The Central Board of Trustees (CBT) has recommended 8.25% annual rate of interest to be credited on EPF accumulations in members’ accounts for the financial year 2024-25.
This article guides EPFO account holders on how to remove an incorrectly linked member ID from their UAN. The EPFO’s self-service portal allows users to delink the wrong ID by logging in, navigating to service history, selecting the incorrect ID, and following the OTP verification process.
