Devajit Saikia to become BCCI secretary, Prabhtej Bhatia to take over as treasurer

New Delhi: Devajit Saikia is all set to replace Jay Shah as the BCCI secretary after he filed his nomination for the post on Saturday. Saikia is set to elected unopposed as he is the only applicant for the secretary post. Meanwhile, Prabhtej Bhatia has applied for the post of the BCCI treasurer and he will also be elected unopposed as the official is the only applicant for the post.

Saikia was named the interim secretary after Shah quit the post following his appointment as the the head of the International Cricket Council (ICC). Shah took over on December 1 and since then, there was no formal appointment for the Indian cricket board’s secretary job though it was clear that Saikia would be the one taking over. BCCI president Roger Bonny had appointed him as the interim secretary after Shah’s exit and he has been working the board, fulfilling the duties of the post.

Devajit Saikia, the current joint-secretary of the BCCI, has filed his nomination for the secretary’s post. The position has been vacant since December last year after Jay Shah took over as ICC Chair.

Bhatia replaces Ashish Shelar

Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh’s Prabhtej Bhatia applied for the BCCI treasurer’s position after the position was left vacant by the exit of former treasurer Ashish Shelar, who recently took oath as a cabinet minister in the Maharashtra government. The final window to file the nominations for both the posts was till Saturday 4 PM and both the candidates put forth their nominations before the final time.

The date and time of the official announcement for both the posts has yet not been released on the board’s website but it is being believed that it will happen anytime soon in this month. Shah, on the other hand, has vowed to take cricket to a different level during his tenure as the ICC chief. Meanwhile, the appointment of both Saikia and Bhatia will mark a new chapter in the Indian cricket administration.
