New Delhi: Devdutt Padikkal shone on his return for Karnataka with a brilliant hundred against Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 quarter-final on Saturday, January 11. Padikkal slammed a brilliant knock of 102 runs off 99 balls to continue his stunning run with the bat in List A cricket. It was Padikkal’s 9th ton in List A cricket.

Padikkal opened the batting with in-form skipper Mayanak Agarwal after Baroda won the toss and asked Karnataka to bat first in the game. Lukman Meriwala struck early to get rid of Agarwal cheaply on just 6 off 15 balls. However, Padikkal joined hands with no.3 KV Avneesh to steady the ship for his team and get them back on track.

Padikkal and Avneesh combined to add 133 runs for the second wicket as they made the Baroda bowlers toil hard for a wicket. Padikkal went on to smash 102 runs laced with 15 fours and 2 sixes while Avneesh struck 52 off 64 balls with the help of 4 fours and a solitary six. Padikkal, who was part of India’s squad in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, featured in his first List A game for Karnataka since December 2023.

He bagged his second consecutive century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy having slammed a ton in his last appearance in the tournament against Chandigarh in December 2023.
