New Delhi: Young Indian spinner Shreyanka Patil has been nominated for the ICC Women’s Emerging Cricketer of the Year award after a superb year in international cricket. Shreyanka stood out with her outstanding contribution for the Indian women’s team in the year 2024. The Indian bowler is joined by South Africa’s Annerie Dercksen, Scotland’s Saskia Horley, and Ireland’s Freya Sargent as the other players on the list of nominees.
The Karnataka off-spinner scripted history as the first Indian player to play in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League in December 2023 and since then, has impressed one and all with her remarkable performances across all the formats. Since she made her debut in December last year, she played 13 T20I matches claiming 15 wickets. She has also scalped two wickets in the 50-over format.
Patil’s consistent performance
Shreyanka Patil has been the key for India in the calendar year as she delivered consistent performances all through the season showcasing her abilities and skillsets in the game. Patil was included in the bilateral series against Australia, Bangladesh, and South Africa and also participated in the big tournaments like the T20 World Cup and Women’s T20 Asia Cup.
During one of her performances at the T20 World Cup, she finished with figures of 2/14, delivering top-notch effort where she claimed big wickets of Pakistan’s Muneeba Ali and Tuba Hassan. Her effort helped India restrict Pakistan to 105/8 in a must-win group-stage game. This proved to be of significant use as India chased down the target in 19 overs and kept their World Cup hopes alive after an an opening loss to New Zealand.
Patil is not only known for her bowling abilities but she is a good contributor with the bat as well. A capable lower-order batter who has chipped in several times with some small through important knocks, proving her ability as a genuine all-rounder.
