New Delhi: DGCA issued a showcause notice to Akasa Air and SpiceJet after issuing a similar order Air India Express earlier on Thursday, on different lapses. The aviation sector regulator placed SpiceJet under enhanced surveillance mechanism which will pave the way for more checks and night surveillance of the troubled airline.
The action was prompted by reports of flight cancellations and financial stress, the regulator said. The watchdog flagged deficiencies related to engineering facilities on August 7-8. “In light of the past record and the special audit carried out in August 2024, SpiceJet has once again been placed under enhanced surveillance with immediate effect,” said DGCA in an official statement.
DGCA notice to Akasa Air
The aviation sector watchdog also issued a show cause notice to Akasa Air citing multiple “regulatory breaches” which were discovered during a recent review. Deficiencies were found in following mandated requisite regulatory approvals for practical training sessions undertaken by Akasa Air, according to the DGCA statement. The regulator will take appropriate action to enforce the regulatory requirements, it added.
Action on Alchemist Aviation
The approval for Alchemist Aviation flying academy was suspended by the DGCA after a fatal trainee aircraft accident was found during an audit which revealed that the academy was in non-compliance with aviation sector regulations. Less than 2 weeks ago, an instructor and trainee pilot died after the academy’s trainee aircraft was involved in a fatal accident.
