New Delhi: MS Dhoni was credited with all the success that Chennai Super Kings achieved in the Indian Premier League over the years and now he’s been citied as the main reason behind the franchise’s failure in the current edition. CSK, in the last two years, have let the fans down with their below-par performances and dismal run in the cash-rich league.
The ongoing season has had the same fate for the Super Kings as the 2024 had and for some, even worst than that. With the side and especially Dhoni facing a lot of criticism from the people in and around the cricketing fraternity and fans, former India legend Kris Srikkanth feel that Dhoni should quit if he can’t do it.
Better to walk away
Srikanth, who was part of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, said that the CSK veteran is ageing and there is not much to expect from him. At the time when he should think about calling it quits, he’s coming back and messing it up. If you are not able to do it, better to walk away, the former Indian batter said on his Youtube channel.
The veteran cricketer further went on to say that: ‘That’s a call Dhoni can only take. Whether he will continue, if he continues, then in what role: captain, wicket keeper or finisher’?
‘In all fairness, his reflexes has gone down. His knees might have given up, his fitness, reflex level everything will obviously come down. And moreover, the top order is flopping,’ Srikkanth added.
In a total of 13 games played thus far, the Super Kings have suffered defeats in 10 matches and won just 3 games in what became the worst season for them in the history of the tournament. In their last match against the Rajasthan Royals, the bottom-placed CSK faced a 6-wicket defeat at the Arun Jaitley stadium. Dhoni has scored 196 runs from 13 games and the franchise has just a game left in the season against Gujarat Titans.
