Sao Paulo: Disturbing visuals of the tragic passenger plane crash with reportedly 62 people on board in Brazil’s Sao Paulo have surfaced on social media, wherein the plane can be purportedly seen exploding into a fireball soon after the crash. Some of the visuals showed fire spreading in a large area near the crash site and a huge plume of smoke emanating from the burning plane high up in the sky.
According to the sources, the exact condition of the people onboard the flight has not been ascertained but, it is being suspected that the survival chances of them are very bleak.
Footage, which surfaced on social media, showed a large area on the fire and smoke coming out of what is believed to be a plane fuselage. In the purported video, a plane can be seen slowly drifting downward vertically in a spiral path before crashing.
Cause of Crash Not Known Yet
The local fire service confirmed the plane fell to the ground near the Vinhedo, but at this stage, it is unclear how many people were travelling on the plane. It is understood the plane belongs to VoePass Linhas Aereas.
Reports in local media claim 58 passengers and four crew members were on board the aircraft. Media reports suggested that the plane crash incident happened at around 2 pm local time. According to the information, VoePass Linhas Aereas is based in Sao Paulo and uses Guarulhos International Airport in the northeast of the city.
The crash reportedly took place in the fiery wreck in a residential area of a city, the airline said, but it was not immediately clear how many people were injured or killed. The airline VoePass confirmed in a statement that a plane headed for Sao Paulo’s International Airport Guarulhos crashed with 58 passengers and 4 crew members aboard. However, the statement didn’t say what caused the accident.
Firefighters confirmed that the plane fell in the city of Vinhedo, but did not offer more details. The firefighter corps was dispatching teams to the crash site.
Brazilian television network GloboNews showed footage of a large area on fire and smoke coming out of an apparent plane fuselage in a residential area full of houses. Additional footage on GloboNews showed a plane drifting downward vertically, spiraling as it fell.
At an event in southern Brazil, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva asked the crowd to stand and observe a minute of silence.
