New Delhi: As Diwali 2024 nears, several people are searching for queries related to whether banks and Stock market will remain closed on the occasion of festivals of lights. Diwali will be celebrated on October 31. Kali Puja, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s birthday and Naraka Chaturdashi also falls on the same day.
Banks across the country will observe a holiday on October 31 on account of Diwali celebrations. The banks will remain closed in several states including Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Puducherry, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and many other states. On October 26, 2024, banks will remain closed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Banks will remain closed on November 1, 2024 for Diwali Amavasya (Laxmi Pujan)/Deepawali/Kut/Kannada Rajyothsava in these areas: Agartala, Belapur, Bengaluru, Dehradun, Gangtok, Imphal, Jammu, Mumbai, Nagpur, Shillong and Srinagar.
Stock Market holiday on Diwali 2024?
The Indian stock market will remain open on October 31, when Diwali will be celebrated in several parts of the country. The leading stock exchanges BSE and NSE have announced that a one-hour special ‘Muhurat Trading’ session which is held on the occasion of Diwali will be conducted on November 1, marking the start of the new Samvat 2081.
The exchanges confirmed that the Muhurat Trading session will be held between 6 pm and 7 pm on November 1. The session is termed very auspicious as it marks the beginning of a new Samvat — the Hindu calendar year that starts on Diwali.
Several Stock market enthusiasts believe that trading during the ‘Muhurat’ brings prosperity and financial growth for the stakeholders.
The market will observe a holiday for the rest of the day, however, only special trading window will be open for one hour in the evening. The exchanges pre-opening session will be conducted from 5:45 pm to 6:00 pm.
