New Delhi: Former India batter Vinod Kambli is on his way to recovery after being admitted to a hospital in Thane where he underwent treatment for a urinary infection. Kambli was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night after complaining of pain and cramps. The ex-cricketer is reportedly out of danger now and will be discharged in the next couple of days.
While he thanked the doctors treating him for saving his life in his first message from the hospital bed, Kambli also sent a heartfelt message to his fans, urging them to celebrate Christmas but avoid ‘drinking too much’. Kambli, whose struggles with alcohol addiction are well known, has had to deal with multiple health issues in the past for the same.
“I will say that you enjoy your life but don’t get drunk. Keep that in mind. Because your mother and father won’t like it,” Kambli told ANI when asked what would he like to tell his fans on the occasion of Christmas.

Vinod Kambli has blood clots in his brain: Doctor
Though he was admitted due to a urinary infection, medical examinations conducted by the doctors at the Akruti Hospital revealed the former India cricketer was also suffering from blood clots in his brain. However, his condition is said to be stable now. During his interaction with ANI, Kambli himself revealed he is likely to be discharged after two days.
Kambli was brought to the hospital in the Kalher area of Bhiwandi town on Saturday by one of his fans, who also happens to be the owner of the hospital. The former India cricketer was admitted after his heath deteriorated and is being offered free treatment at the hospital courtesy of his fan.
I am alive because of the doctors: Vinod Kambli
Expressing his gratitude to the doctors treating him at the Thane hospital, Kambli said he is alive today because of them and is ready to do whatever he is asked to by the medical professionals.
“It is because the doctor here that I am alive… All I would say is that I will do whatever sir (referring to the doctor) asks me to. People will see the inspiration that I’ll give them,” the ex-India cricketer told PTI.
Kambli was recently in the spotlight after his awkward reunion with his childhood friend and former teammate Tendulkar at the memorial of their childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar in Mumbai. Kambli was wheelchair-bound at the event and looked in frail condition, sparking concerns regarding his overall health and well-being.
The former India batter played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs in his international career, amassing 1084 and 2477 runs in the two formats, respectively. Many considered Kambli to be equally talented as Tendulkar during his younger days but the ex-India batter failed to live up to the expectations while playing for India.
