New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir’s tenure as Team India head coach started with the 3-0 series win against Sri Lanka in T20Is, but the Men in Blue lost an ODI series against Sri Lanka after 27 years. Under his leadership, Rohit and Co. also lost their first-ever Test series against New Zealand at home.
Gambhir faced heavy scrutiny from Indian fans after the 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand. The former India opener has no previous experience of coaching teams in Test cricket due to which the BCCI also faced a lot of criticism but the Men in Blue are off to a brilliant start in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as they defeated Australia by 295 runs in the first Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
‘Don’t judge Gautam Gambhir’s performance as India head coach in six months’: Ajay Jadeja
Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja feels that it’s very early to judge Gautam Gambhir’s performance as Team India’s head coach since it has been only six months into his tenure. He said that fans and media are being unfair to Gautam Gambhir and it’s not the right time to judge him.
“I think you are being unfair to Gautam Gambhir if you will start judging people on the basis of their coaching role or whatever way it is being looked at, it is too short a time to for people to be judged. If you are not convinced that he is good, then one performance here or there will be able to convince anyone. I don’t think it is the time to judge him, it is the time we should enjoy him” Jadeja told PTI.
Jadeja also said that sometimes you win matches and sometimes you lose but judging him in six months is wrong. He also praised Gambhir and said that the Indian head coach is a very clear-cut person.
“He is a very clear-cut person and he has made it clear throughout his life. So, what you are seeing now is what everyone expected him to do” he added.
The former India cricketer said that it is too early to pass a judgement on Gambhir’s impact on the Indian team. Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
