New Delhi: The Canadian rapper was known for betting on UFC fighters, but his record was not so good in that whenever he bet on any fighter, the same fighter lost the fight and then fans gave a nickname to Drake’s bet as ‘The Drake Curse’.
The Drake curse was in all effect as he bet on Israel Adesanya to beat Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 305 in Perth, Australia. Drake put $450,000 on Adesanya, a total of $855,000 will be the payout for the Canadian rapper but Du Plessis submitted Adesanya in the fourth round.
With the win over Adesanya, Du Plessis trolled Drake saying ‘From the bottom of my heart once again, Thank you, Drake’. Drake is now 1-3 in betting on Adesanya, Drake puts money every time Adesanya fights in the octagon. He won $900,000 when Izzy defeated Jared Cannoniner in July 2022, but after the win, Drake lost three consecutive bets on Izzy.
Drake put a big amount of $2 million on Izzy beating UFC Light heavyweight Champion Alex Pereira in UFC 281. Canadian rapper again bets on Izzy to defeat Sean Strickland and lost $500,000. Drake has a 16-23 record while betting on UFC fighters.
Drake nearly won $18 million on the public bets but lost roughly $11 million on bets. He was also seen promoting a Stake betting app and everytime he bets on any fight, he posted his bets on his social media.
Dricus Du Plessis retains his UFC middleweight title
Dricus Du Plessis defeated Israel Adesanya to retained his UFC middleweight championship. Du Plessis submitted Izzy in the fourth round via rear-naked choke. Izzy was in comfortable position in the fight but he did a silly mistake in the fourth round and trapped in the submission. Du Plessis was defending his title for the first time and odds were favoriting Izzy but DDP proved everybody wrong and won the fight.
