New Delhi: Dramatic scenes unfolded at Titwood in Glasgow as Netherlands and Nepal played out an epic triple Super Over thriller in the 2nd T20I of the Tri-Series in Scotland. Netherlands edged out Nepal in the epic contest after winning the third Super Over. The game etched its name in history as it became the first T20I match to have witness as many as three Super Overs.
No men’s professional match – T20I, T20 or a List A game had ever gone into a third Super Over before Monday. Nepal and Netherlands produced a nail-biting thriller and there was nothing to separate the two teams even after two overs, before the Dutch eventually claimed victory by clinching the third Super Over.
It all started after Nepal’s Nandan Yadav scored 12 runs off 4 balls in the final over in regulation time to help his side score 15 runs to tie the game, with 16 required to win. Nandan scored 4,2,2,4 against pacer Kyle Klein in the last four deliveries of the 20th over as Nepal finished with 152/8, chasing a target of 153 runs in the game. The game then went into a Super Over to decide the winner.
What happened in the three Super Overs?
In the first Super Over, Kushal Bhurtel smashed two sixes and a four to help Nepal score 19 runs against left-arm spinner Daniel Doram. Chasing 20 in the Super Over, Max ODowd and Michael Levitt managed only 19 runs for the Netherlands as the game went into a second Super Over, with the first one ending in another tie.
In the second Super Over, Netherlands batted first and scored 17 runs with the help of a six each from Scott Edwards and Max ODowd against Lalit Rajbanshi, who bowled the crucial over for Nepal. However, as fate would have it, the second Super Over too ended in a tie after Dipendra Singh Airee smashed a last-ball six against Kyle Klen to help Nepal tie the score at 17.
In the third Super Over, Off-spinner Zach Lion-Cachet dismissed Nepal’s Rohit Paudel and debutant Rupesh Singh inside four balls as they failed to score a run. Michael Levitt smashed a six against Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichhane on the first ball of the third Super Over to seal a thrilling victory for Netherlands.

Earlier, Netherlands were asked to bat first in the match after Nepal won the toss and decided to bowl. The Dutch rode on Teja Nidamanuru’s 35 and a finishing cameo of 12-ball 25 from Saqib Zulfiqar to post a competitive total of 152/7 on the board in 20 overs. In reply, Nepal managed the same score with the help of opener Bhurtel’s 23-ball 34 and skipper Paudel’s 48 off 35 deliveries.
The game then headed into back-to-back three overs as fans got to witness one of the most thrilling finishes in a T20I game.
