New Delhi: Defending champions Mohun Bagan rode on their goalkeeper Vishal Kaith’s penalty-saving ability to trump Bengaluru FC 4-3 (2-2 after regulation time) in a shootout and enter the Durand Cup final in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Not included by new national team coach in the Indian team, Kaith stopped two penalties, just as he did against Punjab FC in the quarters, to take the green and marrons to their 30th final of Asia’s oldest football tournament.
The record 17-time champions seemed to be down and out when they were two goals down in the 51st minute but orchestrated a turnarounf in dramatci fashion to ensure a face-off with NorthEast United in the final on August 31.
