New Delhi: Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo is reportedly said to move to Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) coaching staff in IPL 2025, ending his more-than-a-decade-long association with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League.
Bravo was sold to CSK in IPL 2011 auction for INR 92 lakhs. He played 130 matches for the franchise in 10 seasons, barring the period when the team was handed a two-year ban in 2016 and 2017. Bravo was released by CSK after IPL 2022 and was appointed as their bowling coach.
The 40-year-old Bravo won three titles with CSK as a player in 2011, 2018 and 2021 while as a coach, he saw the MS Dhoni-led team lift the cup in 2023. With 154 wickets in 130 matches, Bravo remain the leading wicket-taker of the franchise.
According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, the two-time T20 World Cup winner recently met with KKR CEO Venky Mysore during the ongoing CPL 2024. Bravo, who last played for Trinbago Knight Riders, the sister franchise of KKR, has agreed to the coaching role with the defending IPL champions.
“DJ Bravo joining us is an exciting development. His relentless drive to win, along with his vast experience and deep knowledge, will greatly benefit our franchise and players,” Mysore said in a statement, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
This development comes less than a day after Bravo announced retirement from all forms of cricket, cutting short his last hurrah in the CPL 2024 because of a groin injury sustained midway of the tournament.
Bravo to replace Gambhir as KKR mentor
Dwayne Bravo will take up the role of team mentor at KKR after the position was vacated by Gautam Gambhir’s move to the Indian national team as the head coach. Earlier it was reported that former Australian player Ricky Ponting will join the KKR camp as mentor. However, the 49-year-old moved to Punjab Kings as new head coach in IPL 2025.
