Earthquake of 6.8 Magnitude Hits Philippines’ Mindanao, Aftershocks Likely

Mindanao, Phillipines: An earthquake of 6.8 magnitude has hit Mindanao in Philippines and aftershocks are also likely; a tsunami alert has not been issued.

No damage or loss of life has been reported so far.

Earthquake of 6.8 Magnitude Strikes Philippines

An earthquake of 6.8 magnitude has struck Surigao del Sur province in the southern Philippines on Saturday morning.

The earthquake has been reported by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

According to the institute, the earthquake occurred at 6:22 a.m. local time, hit at a depth of 9 km, about 66 km northeast of Lingig, a coastal town.

The tremors were felt in many provinces including Agusan del Sur, Davao de Oro, Davao City and Davao Occidental.

Aftershocks Likely, No Tsunami Alert Warning

While no tsunami alert has been issued and the earthquake has not caused any damage to life and/or property, a warning for aftershocks has been issued.

Experts have warned the locals to remain vigilant as aftershocks are quite likely.
