El Clasico: Barcelona unveil special Coldplay edition kits for Real Madrid clash

New Delhi: Spanish giants Barcelona are gearing up for their marquee encounter of the season, as they travel to the Santiago Bernabéu for the famed El Clasico clash against Real Madrid on October 27, 2024. The Catalan club have unveiled their special edition kit for the clash, as part of their sponsorship deal with the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service, Spotify.

As part of their deal with Spotify, they have previously released jerseys in collaboration with several artists like Rolling Stones, Drake, Rosalia, and Karol G, where the Spotify logo is replaced by special emblems signifying the artists for special games. The club have now collaborated with iconic British rock band, Coldplay. The connection between Coldplay and Barcelona goes back to the 2008/09 season, when their song, Viva la Vida, became the club’s unofficial anthem.

Earlier in the day, the club revealed the special Coldplay edition kits that they will don in the clash against Real Madrid. Their main Spotify sponsor is replaced by an emblem inspired by Coldplay’s 10th album, ‘Moon Music’, that was released earlier this month. The jersey won’t just be worn by the men’s team but the Barcelona Femeni team will also be donning the Coldplay edition kit when they face Eibar on November 02, 2024.

For fans of Coldplay and Barcelona, this unique jersey will be available for purchase from Friday, October 18, 2024. All proceeds from the sale of this jersey will be donated by Spotify, Coldplay and Barcelona. The proceeds will be donated to a joint project of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR/ACNUR) and the FC Barcelona Foundation. Only 1899 jerseys will be available for purchase as a nod to the year the club was founded.

Why do Barcelona have different artists as Sponsors?

The Catalan club’s partnership with Spotify is a one-of-a-kind for the club as it aims at bringing the world of football and music as one. It aims to give a global stage to the players and artists alike at the Spotify Camp Nou. According to their agreement, Spotify will use this partnership to shed light on various artists from all across the world. Spotify wants the space where they have their logo to be a place to celebrate artists and can be more than just a Spotify logo.

Barcelona’s current season

The Blaugrana have made a fantastic start to life under Hansi Flick and currently sit atop of La Liga after nine games. Flick’s side have only lost once in the first nine games, winning the rest and have easily been the highest scoring team in the league with 28 goals. Their attack has been carried by the potent front three of Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and the evergreen Robert Lewandowski. Their perennial nemesis, Real Madrid, sit just behind them in the table at 2nd place, indicating that El Clasico is going to be an entertaining affair.

Barcelona’s deal with Spotify has the Catalans collaborating with various music artists over the last couple of years with artists like Drake and Rolling Stones.  Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
