New Delhi: Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has changed its rules and made it smoother for members to correct their personal information like name, address and bank details by visiting the EPFO website. Earlier, if any EPF member wanted to edit name, marital status or service related errors, the individual was supposed to apply online.
The employer was required to verify the application and send it to EPFO for the required changes. Now if the employee has a Universal Account Number (UAN) issued after October 1, 2017, then the members can make the correction themselves without the approval of the employer or EPFO.
“Under the revised procedure, the members whose Universal Account Number (UAN) has already been validated through Aadhaar can update their profile like name, date of birth, gender, nationality, father/mother’s name, marital status, spouse name, date of joining and date of leaving themselves without the requirement of uploading any document. Only, in certain cases where UAN was obtained prior to 1-10-2017, the updation would require certification of employer only,” the Union Ministry of Labour & Employment stated.
This would help in reducing the workload on both employers and EPFO. Earlier, despite Aadhaar KYC, the process used to take too much time. For the convenience of the EPF account holders, who have UAN issued before October 1, 2017, employers can make corrections without EPFO’s approval. This also includes complaints related to profile and KYC.
Transfer rules related to UAN and Aadhaar
- Faster transfers: The EPFO has made the transfer process faster by removing the need for employer approval.
- Convenient Management: EPF members can now manage transfers directly on the EPFO portal.
- Transparency: Simple processes increase transparency and reduce dependency on employers.
- Employers are not required to transfer UANs and Aadhaar linked member IDs issued after October 1, 2017.
- In case of transfer between different UANs (issued after October 1, 2017), the process is simple if both the UANs are linked to the same Aadhaar.
- In case of UAN issued before October 1, 2017, if the name, date of birth, and gender are the same, the transfer process will be simple.
