New Delhi: Jamie Vardy capped off his 500th and final match for Leicester City with his landmark 200th goal for the former English Premier League champions as they defeated Ipswich Town 2-0 on Sunday.

The 38-year-old striker put the club he represented for 13 years ahead in the 28th minute at King Power Stadium. He had moved to Leicester from Fleetwood Town from 1 million pounds (now $1.33 million) in May 2012.

Vardy slotted home James Justin’s pass past keeper Alex Palmer to open the scoring, after which winger Kasey McAteer’s venomous 69th minute strike doubled the lead.

Vardy celebrated his milestone goal by running towards the corner flag, pulling it out and raising it above his head as his team-mates gathered around him in celebration.

The win helped Leicester move to 25 points to be be 18th in the standings, a spot above Ipswich who have 22.

Vardy helped Leicester win the EPL in 2016 in a memorable campaign where they beat pre-seaosm odds of 5000-1. He had scored in a record 11 consecutive games to play a leading role in one of the greatest underdog stories in modern sporting history.

In the current season, he has netted nine times and has shown he is good enough to play at the topmost level though he is yet to announce his next move.

Elsewhere, Fulham defeated Brentford 3-2 to complete the double over their London opponents. Fulham took the lead in the 16th minute through Raul Jimenez who headed in his 12th goal of the season before Bryan Mbeumo pulled level after combining with Yoane Wissa.

Mbeumo then failed to score from a penalty soon after but Wissa ensured that Brentford went into the break ahead 2-1. But Fulham turned it around with two goals in two minutes as Tom Cairney headed home and harry Wilson curled it in from range.

Goodbye Goodison Park

In another emotional farewell. Everton goodbye to Goodison Park with a 2-0 win over relegated Southampton as Iliman Ndiaye scored a brace in their final men’s game at the stadium.

Everton will have their new home at 52,888-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium from next season, with Goodison Park becoming the home of their women’s team.

Nottingham Forest remained in the hunt for Champions League action next season after a nervy 2-1 win at West Ham.
