New Delhi: The final matchday for Group B, a hugely important match for both teams will be played at the Leipzig stadium as Croatia take on defending champions Italy in what is a must-win game for Zlatko Dalic’s side as they are yet to win a game in the tournament.
Croatia started their campaign with a hugely disappointing 3-0 loss to Spain where they shone in patches but were never able to fully assert their dominance in the match and looked much inferior to the Spaniards. Going behind to two quick goals killed off any momentum they were looking to create and that sealed their fate for that game.
They took on Albania in matchday two and were expected to come away with three points but once again, they failed to perform well in the game consistently. They went behind once again and although were able to come from behind to lead the match, a lapse in concentration towards the end saw them concede in the final added minute of extra time that meant the match ended at 2-2.
Meanwhile, Italy began their title defence with a comfortable 2-1 win over Albania after they went behind to the quickest goal ever scored in UEFA Euro history, but came back with a commanding display to win that game comfortably despite the scoreline making it look much more even than it was.
Their second game, however, was a stark contrast to the first game where they couldn’t get a hold of the game and struggled to create anything in attack. Their defence was on point though as they defended really well, only conceding to an unfortunate own goal.
With the second-place spot still up for grabs in the group, the winner of tonight’s game will claim that berth and the loser will have to find help from elsewhere to progress to the knockouts.
