New Delhi: The Euro 2024 last 16 draw got finalised on Wednesday evening and the first fixture of the knockout stage will kick off this weekend. Gareth Southgate’s side England have made it through to the last 16 despite their string of poor performances while debutants Georgia stunned 2016 champions Portugal with a 2-0 victory.
Let’s take a closer look at which teams got knocked out of Euro 2024 and which have made their mark and qualified for the knockout stage.
Teams that have qualified for the Euro 2024 knockouts
Germany, the hosts, sealed the top spot in Group A with a 1-1 draw against Switzerland on Sunday who finished as the runner-up.
Spain made their way through the ‘Group of Death’ i.e, Group B with victories over Croatia, Italy and Albania claiming top spot. The other one to qualify is Italy standing in the second spot after snatching a last gasp draw against Croatia.
The Three Lions England finished on the top spot in Group C courtesy with a win over Serbia and draws against Denmark and Slovenia. England will next face Slovakia in their round of 16.
Denmark from Group C finished second even after claiming equal points on all levels with Slovenia. Though they have also qualified for the round of 16.
Ralf Rangnick’s Austria turned out to be the surprise winners of Group D, finishing ahead of France and Netherlands. Though all three qualified for round of 16 but France being favourites finished as runner ups.
Romania also turned out the best underdogs as they surpassed Belgium in Group E to occupy top spot. Group E had all four teams finishing up on four points with Slovakia moving forward and Ukraine out of the tournament.
Portugal booked their place in the round of 16 as group winners ahead of Turkey although they were beaten by the debutants Georgia 2-0 in their final group game on Wednesday.
Georgia reached the knockout stages in their very first tournament along with the Netherlands, Slovakia and Slovenia as the four best third place teams.

Teams knocked out of EURO 2024
Poland became the first team to get knocked out of the Euro 2024 after picking up just one point in group B after a respectable 1-1 draw against France.
Scotland’s wait to reach the knockouts of a major tournament go on after they finished last in their group , with Sunday’s defeat to Hungary ending their hopes of qualifying as one of the four best third place teams. They opened their campaign with a 5-0 defeat to Germany, following a 1-1 draw with Switzerland and then the 1-0 defeat to Hungary.
Hungary also got knocked out as they had the goal difference in negative as compared to the other best teams for the third place.
Albania, despite putting forward their competitive performances finished on the bottom of Group B. Serbia have also joined the Albanians by heading for an early exit having finished bottom of England’s group.
Croatia got cruelly dumped out of Euro 2024 after conceding a last minute equaliser against Italy with their two points not enough to get progress as one of the best third place sides.
Ukraine became the first team in the history of the tournament to end the group stage with four points but still fail to reach the knockout stage.
Czechia finished bottom of Group F after their last 1-2 defeat to Turkey in their last group fixture.
