New Delhi: Former Pakistan cricketer Saeed Ajmal lavished massive praise on legendary India batter Sachin Tendulkar saying that he refers to him as “sir”. The spin maestro talked about dismissing the Indian stalwart in international cricket saying that it was indeed a very happy moment for him to take probably the biggest wicket of his career. Ajmal put the traditional IND-PAK rivalry aside and commended Sachin for his on-field presence.
While speaking at the GloFans High School Cricket Cup launch that will take place in Sharjah and Ajman, Ajmal said that Sachin is a great, most honest, and kind cricketer. He added that Sachin is of legendary level and that it is an honour for him to have played with him. He also said that he will always remember the time he took the field with him and that he respects him a lot as a human.
He went on to share an anecdote when Ajmal played in Sachin-led Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) XI back in July 2014 when they took on the Rest of the World XI which was led by Shane Warne. Tendulkar had advised Ajmal to bowl a “doosra” to Kevin Pietersen which got the batter out.
“I never got angry. I played with him in a league in 2010 (sic. 2014). He told me to get Pietersen out by doing “doosra”. Then I got Petersan out by doing doosra. He was very happy. Then when I took 4 wickets in 4 overs, Sachin told me that now the match has 6 wickets left, you should not finish it too early. He has always respected us. He is a very good man,” the leg-spinner added.
