New Delhi: A new winner will be crowned in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first time since Gujarat Titans’ maiden title triumph in 2022, when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lock horns with Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 03. Both RCB and PBKS have been part of the IPL since its inception in 2008, but have yet to win their maiden title.
Punjab Kings will be featuring in their first final in 11 years, having last reached the summit clash of the tournament in 2014, where they were defeated by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), to miss out on the trophy. RCB, on the other hand, will be in their first final after nine years since they lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the title clash in 2016.
Virat Kohli will also be looking to finally end his quest for his first-ever IPL title after 18 years of being with RCB. Kohli has been part of the RCB squad since the first edition of the tournament in 2008, but has not managed to win the elusive trophy yet. One of the best batters of the present era, Kohli is also the leading run-getter of all time in the IPL.
However, it wouldn’t only be Punjab Kings who will be standing in Kohli and RCB’s way. There are strong chances of rain playing spoilsport in Ahmedabad during the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday. Rain delayed the start of Qualifier 2 between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians by 2 hours on Sunday, and the forecast for Tuesday doesn’t look promising.
What happens if IPL 2025 is washed out due to rain?
There is 120 minutes of extra time available if a short spell of rain delays the start of play in the IPL 2025 final between RCB and Punjab Kings on Tuesday. 9:30 PM is the cut-off time for a full 20-over contest. However, if there is no play possible on Tuesday, resulting in a complete washout, the match will be moved to the reserve day.
There is a reserve day available for the final, and the RCB vs PBKS final will be shifted to Wednesday, June 04, if no play is possible on Tuesday. If the match gets washed out entirely on the reserve day as well, the team that finished with more points in the league stage will be crowned champion. Punjab Kings will thus become IPL 2025 champions if the final is washed out on both days.
A minimum five-over contest is required between the two teams to determine the result of the final. The cut-off time for a five-over match will be 11:56 PM on the day of the final on June 03 and the reserve day on June 04.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the final of the IPL 2025 on Tuesday, June 03. However, there are strong chances of rain playing spoilsport in the final. IPL Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
