New Delhi: Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Axar Patel is not part of his team’s playing XI in their ongoing clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Saturday, May 24. In the absence of Axar, Faf du Plessis is leading Delhi Capitals and came out for toss at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
Axar is missing the game against the Punjab Kings due to illness. The DC skipper is missing his second game of the season after not being part of the playing XI for his side’s last game against the Mumbai Indians in Mumbai. The Indian all-rounder had missed the last game too due to sickness and hasn’t recovered fully yet to return to the field.
Axar’s absence hurt DC severely against the Mumbai Indians as they suffered a crushing 59-run defeat in the game to bow out of the race for the playoffs in IPL 2025. DC managed to restrict Mumbai Indians to 180/5 in 20 overs, but failed to chase down the target as Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah combined to run riot for the hosts with three-wicket hauls apiece.
In Axar’s absence, Du Plessis is leading DC, and they have brought in Afghanistan opener Sediqullah Atal in the playing XI, with Abhishek Porel also out of the XI. Atal will open the batting with Du Plessis. KL Rahul is among the substitutes for DC and is likely to come on as an impact sub during their run-chase against Punjab Kings.
Delhi Capitals win toss, opt to field against PBKS
Delhi Capitals’ skipper Du Plessis won the toss and opted to bowl first in the game against Punjab Kings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday. DC, who are already out of the playoffs, will be looking to end the season on a high with a victory against Punjab Kings and take the fifth spot on the points table. Punjab, on the other hand, will be looking to clinch a victory to displace Gujarat Titans from the top of the IPL 2025 points table with 19 points after 13 matches.
