New Delhi: India’s home season got off to a decent start on a very rare cool morning in Chennai with many big batters struggling to score against a brilliant fast bowling display by Bangladesh. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s knock helped the team to get out of the trouble as hosts posted 339/6 on Day 1 of the opening Test.
Ashwin and Jadeja stitched an unbeaten 195-run partnership for the seventh wicket and brought India back into the match with their outstanding batting. Hasan Mahmud delivered a great spell in the morning to dismiss skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.
After the failure of star batters, Jaiswal and Pant added 62 runs on the scoreboard for the Men in Blue but Mahmud struck again and dismissed a well-set Pant on 39 runs. KL Rahul walked out to bat at No. 6 and took his time to get set. But after facing 52 deliveries, Mehidy Hasan Miraz got his wicket on just 16 runs.
After his dismissal, fans slammed Rahul for the poor knock in the first Test and questioned his place in the Test team. Many fans on social media expressed their disappointment at the team management for selecting Rahul ahead of Sarfaraz Khan, who had a brilliant Test series against England.
