New Delhi: Afghanistan defeated South Africa by 9 wickets in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, Trinidad on June 27, Thursday. Afghanistan’s left-arm pacer removed Proteas opener Quinton de Kock in his first over and became the leading wicket-taker in a single edition of T20 World Cup history.
Farooqi surpassed Sri Lankan spinner Wanindu Hasaranga’s record for the most wickets in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Hasaranga took 16 wickets in the T20 World Cup 2021.
Farooqi took 17 wickets in the ongoing T20 World Cup. He started T20 World Cup campaign with a five-wicket haul against Uganda and took a four-fer against New Zealand as Afghanistan made history by defeating the Kiwis for the first time in T20 Internationals. He also took three wickets against India in a high-stake match, Farooqi made impact in every match, especially in the powerplay with the new ball.

South Africa qualified for T20 World Cup final
Proteas have scripted history by qualifying for the T20 World Cup final for the first time ever. They defeated Afghanistan by 9 wickets. South Africa chased the score in the 9th over. Reeza Hendricks made unbeaten 29 runs in 25 balls whereas skipper Aiden Markaram scored 23 runs as South Africa chased down the target comfortably.
Earlier, South African bowlers bundled out Afghanistan for just 56 runs. Their top and middle order failed to score runs. Tabraiz Shamsi and Marco Jansen took three wickets each whereas Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje took two wickets each in the match.
