New Delhi: According to a few reports, Barcelona will get around €3 million in compensation from FIFA for losing their star center-back, Ronald Araujo, to a long-term injury he suffered while playing for Uruguay in the Copa America. It should be mentioned that Araujo sustained the injury during a game against Brazil on July 7th, which kept him out of play for a long time.
FIFA’s Club Protection Program, which provides clubs with financial assistance when players are hurt while performing their national duties, is the source of the compensation. If a player misses more than 28 days in a row due to an injury, the program is applicable. The start of FIFA’s payments to Barcelona occurred on August 3, when Araujo surpassed this threshold. The player’s fixed salary is used to calculate these payments, which keep going until the player is allowed to return.

FC Barcelona have already stated that Araujo might return on December 15th in a La Liga matchup with Leganes. According to this chronology, he will have missed 134 days of play due to FIFA’s compensation coverage and 162 days since his injury. By mid-December, FIFA would have given Barcelona €2.7 Million if this return date is verified.
The purpose of the Club Protection Program is to lessen the financial strain on teams when players must miss extended periods of time due to injuries they acquire while playing for their countries. In Araujo’s instance, the coverage started as soon as he arrived at Uruguay’s Copa America training camp and will continue until he has fully recovered. This strategy makes sure that teams don’t have to pay for a player’s absence in full, especially when injuries happen during recognized international matches.
For Barcelona, this compensation partially offsets the challenges posed by the defender’s absence, although the team will undoubtedly be eager to see him back on the pitch as soon as possible. Barca received €300,000 for Pedri’s injury during Euros and €6.3 million for Gavi’s injury from the previous season. The sum equals around € 9.6 million that will be compensated to the Culers by FIFA
