New Delhi: British musician Robbie Williams’ in his role as FIFA’s Music Ambassador will also have him perform a song at this year’s FIFA Club World Cup in the United States. Williams was recently named as the music ambassador for the global governing body of football and in this role will also collaborate with FIFA at future events and tournaments as well.

The 50-year-old was in New York last week to perform a medley of his catalogue during the Club World Cup’s launch event for its trophy tour. Having played his hit songs like ‘Feel’ Williams also performed his Club World Cup song in fragments.

Williams has been known for his love for football and has been a long-term fan of Port Vale, an English team which plays in League Two and of which he was named club president last year. In 2005 he founded a football club he founded called Los Angeles Vale F.C Williams but disbanded the project in 2007.

The Athletic reported that a FIFA spokesperson had confirmed FIFA’s collaboration with Robbie Williams and his team for numerous new music projects for future FIFA tournaments and events, which includes the upcoming Club World Cup to be held later this year.

The ‘Angels’ hitmaker had previously performed at the opening ceremony of FIFA Men’s World Cup 2018 in Russia. Back then his performance had received a lot of backlash after Williams had made an inappropriate gesture directly to the camera during the global broadcast and in front of a crowd of 80,000 people in the stadium. US broadcaster Fox had to ultimately issue an apology.

Williams told FIFA during the competition’s trophy launch tour in New York that the rebuilt tournament which will now feature 32 teams instead of seven was something “to look forward to” and football has the power to “soother” people of their trouble.

How the FIFA Club World Cup looks?

The tournament will see big teams from six confederations take part, which includes clubs like Chelsea, Manchester City, Inter Miami and Bayern Munich. The tournament will happen between June 14th and July 13th of this year. Initially, FIFA had struggled to find a broadcasting partner for the tournament.

DAZN though has agreed to a $1 billion deal with FIFA which will see all 63 games being broadcasted for free across the world in order to attract interest in the tournament and as many eyeballs as possible. The stadium tickets went on sale last week and the first match of the tournament which will be played between Inter Miami and Al Ahly will be priced between $230 to $700.

The prices might rise as FIFA has announced that they will be using “dynamic pricing”, which loosely means that the higher the demand, the more expensive the tickets will be and conversely the prices will decrease if the demand decreases.
