Final to be pushed back, new venues under consideration: How BCCI plans to resume IPL 2025 next week

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to resume the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 next week after the tournament was suspended in the wake of the India-Pakistan tensions on Friday. BCCI suspended the league for a week following the abandoned match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala.

The board has already informed all ten teams to reassemble and ask their foreign players to return. BCCI and the IPL governing council are also working on a new schedule as the tournament might have to be pushed back. The board is also contemplating whether to hold the remainder of the tournament in limited venues.

As per a report in the Indian Express, BCCI is planning to push the IPL final to May 30 from the original date of May 25. The board has identified Chennai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad as three potential venues to host the remaining 16 matches of the tournament. BCCI might share the updated schedule for the resumption of IPL 2025 with the ten teams by Sunday or Monday.

“As the IPL was suspended for a week, there is a possibility of the IPL final now being played on May 30 instead of May 25 with limited venues. The schedule will be sent to all IPL teams by tonight,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by the Indian Express.

All franchises asked to report back

As per the report, the BCCI has also asked all ten teams to reassemble and report back to their respective venues by Tuesday, as the Indian cricket board is planning to resume the tournament by Friday, May 16. The board has also asked the franchises to make arrangements to have their foreign players return to India for the resumption of the tournament.

The overseas players and coaching staff of several IPL franchises had started returning home on Friday after the league was suspended. “All franchises have been told to inform its team to report to their respective destination by Tuesday,” a BCCI source told the Indian Express.

BCCI would require at least two more weeks to complete the entire IPL 2025 with a total of 16 matches remaining, including the final. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal recently said that the board is exploring the possibility of conducting the remainder of the tournament immediately after India and Pakistan announced a ceasefire following three days of tensions on Saturday.

The board will consult the government before deciding on the dates and venues for the remainder of the tournament.

BCCI is reporteldy planning to resume the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 by next week. The board might push the final to a later date and is likely to share the updated schedule with all the ten franchises soon.  IPL Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
