New Delhi: Tata Group-owned Air India Express announced a flight connecting Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala to Riyadh in Saudi Arabia starting from September 9, 2024. The airline announced the route as an Onam gift to travellers catering to a longstanding demand from Guld-based expatriates.
The flight started from Thiruvananthapuram International Airport at 7:55 pm and reached Riyadh at 10:40 pm. The first Air India Express flight on the route, IX 521 took off on Monday. Flight IX 522 completed the round trip starting at 11:20 pm from Riyadh and reaching Kerala at 730 am the next day.
The new flight route is especially aimed at expatriate workers in from Kerala and Tamil Nadu, the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TIAL) said in a statement. The new flight is expected to add to consumer options since there is an existing flight from Thiruvananthapuram to Dammam in Saudi Arabia. The move is also expected to ease fares by offering greater connectivity between the 2 countries.
How many flights are there from TIAL to Gulf region?
Thiruvananthapuram Airport currently operates 127 flights to different destinations within the Gulf region. There are 39 flights to Abu Dhabi followed by 29 flights to Sharjah. Around 14 flights take off from TIAL to Dubai and Muscat, respectively, the TOI reported. There are 10 flights to Doha in Qatar, 9 flights to Bahrain, 7 flights to Dammamd and 5 flights to Kuwait from Thirivananthapuram Airport.

Air India Express has announced a flash sale on flight bookings until September 16, 2024, for travel until March 31, 2024. The airline is offering fares starting from Rs 932 on the Xpress lite category with zero convenience fee on certain routes. Air India Express is offering flights starting at RS 1,088 per seat on Xpress Value seats.

The airline is also offering up to 40 per cent off on meals and seats booked as well as Xpress Ahead fares. Xpress Ahead is a priority check in service offered by the airline.
